Getting Started

The first order of business is to properly prepare the concrete substrate.  The Floor-Glaze, Floor-Coat and Floor-Crest system requires that the concrete be diamond ground to achieve a texture similar to grit sandpaper. In other words, the surface must have a clean, workable profile. Epoxy Floor Supply offers a seven-inch, handheld Metabo grinder that is used for concrete surface preparation. The full kit available on our website includes a loop handle, dust shroud and diamond cup wheel.

 

 

Once the floor has been ground, the surface must be vacuumed to collect excess dust. Epoxy Floor Supply offers a Ruwac vacuum that is perfect for dust collection and jobsite cleanup.

 

 

Coating System Breakdown

The first layer of the comprehensive protective coating system is Floor-Glaze, a 100% solids, USDA accepted, clear epoxy coating. It is a 2:1 ratio product (2 parts A to 1 part B) that cures into a very hard solid. The Floor-Glaze primer is a cyclo-aliphatic, amine curing epoxy coating and is resistant to fungus and mildew and is antimicrobial.

 

The second layer of the system is Floor-Coat, a pigmented epoxy floor coating available in light, medium and dark gray. Floor-Coat is the perfect body coat to apply over the Floor-Glaze primer as it is also a 100% solids, USDA accepted coating that is cyclo-aliphatic, amine curing and is resistant to fungus, mildew, and is anti-microbial.

 

For the finishing touch, Floor-Crest Urethane topcoat is abrasion, chemical and UV resistant. Floor-Crest is a clear polyester polyurethane material.
