Often when discussing flooring options, people assume that epoxy, while durable, isn’t the most decorative choice. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Adding a quartz broadcast layer to an epoxy coating system will give any floor a beautiful finish and ensure durability and a long service life. With quartz floors, you don’t have to give up aesthetics for functionality. Continue reading for more advantages of epoxy floors with quartz aggregate.
Seamless Look, Seamless Protection
Epoxy floor systems with quartz are seamless, meaning they are not only pretty to look at, but are also easy to clean and maintain. Ceramic tile, for example, has seams and grout lines that are difficult to clean and can become breeding grounds for bacteria. Another advantage to quartz floors is that they can continue up the wall with cove base, eliminating even more area for bacteria to grow.
On the Subject of Bacteria…
Epoxy floors with quartz are virtually impervious— bacteria, water or other liquids cannot absorb into the coating system. This means that bacteria cannot grow on the substrate underneath. The same is not true of other flooring systems, such as ceramic tile. Perhaps the biggest weakness of ceramic tile is that it absorbs water through the joints and into the substrate. Therefore, bacteria of all types can penetrate into the joints, and erode not only the joints, but the thin set grout underneath. This makes for a very unsanitary environment, even if the tile on top looks clean. Eventually, the bacteria underneath the tile will contaminate it, and the tile will have to be removed.
Tough Floor
Quartz floors are abrasion, chemical and impact resistant. This means that properly installed quartz floor systems will long outlast other flooring options. For instance, when exposed to these same conditions, ceramic tiles are prone to cracking, chipping and discoloration.
No Slip, No Problem
In many environments such as kitchens, restrooms, commercial, retail or industrial spaces, slip resistance is a must. Slippery floors are major safety hazards, especially in situations where there is constant exposure to water and/or other liquids. Quartz floors provide slip-resistance, something a smooth flooring system simply cannot offer.
